Il Black Bass è originario dei Grandi Laghi in Florida e nel Nord del Messico, in Europa è stato introdotto a partire dal 1883. La bocca è molto grande, obliqua e armata di piccoli denti numerosi. . Il colore del corpo è di un verdastro scuro sul dorso che schiarisce sui fianchi e vira sul giallo sul ventre. Tutto il corpo è cosparso di macchiette scure di forma e dimensioni molto variabili. Gli esemplari fino ai due anni di età formano piccoli banchi mentre gli adulti tendono ad isolarsi. In inverno raggiunge profondità più elevate, mentre in estate è frequente nei pressi della superficie.
The Black Bass, originally rooted in the Great Lakes in Florida and in northern Mexico, has been introduced in Europe starting 1883. It has a robust ovally shaped body and a very large oblique mouth armed with small teeth. It has a unique dorsal fin, its foremost part arrayed in a pointy, radial fashion and its back, softer part slightly curved upwards. Body colour varies according with the habitat, normally spanning from a dark green on the back towards a white/yellow nuance on the belly with randomly shaped dark spots covering the whole body. Specimens up to two years form small banks while adults tend to isolate themselves. During winter the Black Bass usually ventures in higher depths, experiencing periods of reduced physiological activity, while in summer it can be frequently found close to the surface.
